Aaron's Championship hopes looked good when he drove the race of his life on Saturday at Brands Hatch GP Circuit. He started 2nd on the grid with his main championship rivals in 3rd and 4th place. After taking the lead at Paddock Hill bend the race was extremely eventful with the lead changing hands several times throughout the 8 lap race. Aaron led into the last lap but was overtaken with half a lap to go. 2nd place on the Podium meant that he closed within 22 points of the lead and only 15 points behind 2nd placed Jake Cook. Aaron said “That was the most challenging race of my life; after being pushed onto the grass at Graham Hill bend, I managed to produce the fastest lap and catch back up with the leaders. I'm really please with 2nd place and if I can drive like that again tomorrow, I will still be in with a chance of winning the Championship”
Sunday’s race was a nerve wracking event with three drivers still with a chance of taking the Championship. Aaron started 2nd on the grid again and made another good start, however on lap three a tap from behind from the Championship leader sent Aaron into a spin which put him back into 12 place. Another incident meant the safety car was deployed shortly after but Williamson’s Championship hopes were dealt another blow when an incident on the restart forced him to retire. Williamson said “I am so disappointed that the last race of the season had to end this way but I’m pleased with finishing 3rd in the Championship” “I am grateful to everyone at the Muzz racing team for doing such a great job and to all of my sponsors for making it all possible”
Aaron will have to move into an Adult Formula for next season as he is now too old to race in Junior Formulae. No decision has yet been made but he is looking at various options within the BTCC package and would welcome interested parties for potential sponsorship.
Silverstone - Rounds 15 & 16
Mixed fortunes for Williamson at Silverstone
Aaron Williamson’s Championship hopes seemed to be fading on Bank Holiday weekend at Silverstone racing circuit.
Problems in qualifying saw him starting in a very uncharacteristic 10th place on the grid for Round 15 on the Ginetta Junior Championship. Aaron made impressive early progress by moving up into the top four by the end of lap two; things were looking good for another podium finish but fate intervened and a gearbox failure on lap three forced him into a very disappointing retirement.
Aaron said ‘I was very disappointed with my qualifying position but I’d still set my sights on another podium finish, which at one point was well within my grasp’, ‘The last thing I really needed at this point in the championship is to get a DNF but unfortunately that what happens in motor racing’
Aarons’s mechanics at ‘Muzz racing’ worked late into the evening replacing the gearbox ready for Round 16 on Sunday.
After the disappointing start to the weekend Aaron remained upbeat and determined to fight for the Championship. He started 8th on the grid and managed a very respectable 3rd place finish. Preferring wet conditions, fate was on his side today when it started to rain before the race got underway.
Williamsons ‘Muzz racing’ team mate Jake Rattenbury had a fantastic getaway and subsequently led the race for the first four laps. Aaron had started to make his presence felt and on lap six he moved into third place, this was to be short lived when a spin on lap eight moved him down to 11th place; Aaron produced a spirited drive to climb back into eighth on the next lap and then gained two further positions in quick succession. On lap 10, he then passed two more cars to move ahead into fourth place.
Heading into Brooklands on the final tour, Aaron dived up the inside and grabbed third from Rattenbury with a great pass to clinch a very impressive podium. Rattenbury finished a career best fourth.
Jake Cook who won round 15 and is also Aaron's nearest challenger had problems of his own in round 16 when contact on the first lap saw his retirement after damage to his radiator. This levelled the standings considerably and ensured that Aaron is still in contention for the Championship title.
With the 2009 Ginetta Junior Championship title battle as close and as unpredictable as ever, there are now four rounds left this season with the top four contenders capable of lifting the Championship trophy. The action at Silverstone served to show this title contest is likely to go down to the wire during the final race of the year at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit in October. This weekend, rounds 17 & 18 will take will take place at Rockingham in Northamptonshire and will be televised live on ITV4 on Sunday afternoon.
Knockhill - Rounds 13 & 14
Aarons first outing at Knockhill in Scotland proved to be very rewarding; his second place finish in round 13 moved him into the Championship lead. Third place in round 14 meant Jake Cook moved into the Championship lead with Aaron 4 points behind.
The weather forecasters predicted a wet weekend and as practice started on Friday the heavens opened and torrential rain continued throughout the practice session and Qualifying session on Saturday. These conditions were not ideal for getting to know the track on a first visit. Despite this Aaron managed to Qualify 3rd for Round 13 and 2nd for Round 14. Race day saw a change in the conditions, which meant Aaron had to quickly adapt to dry conditions.
Aaron got off to a good start and maintained his position until lap three when he slipped into second place. During the last two laps he challenged for the lead but was unable to find enough pace to take the lead.
Aaron, whose second place gave him the series lead at that point, commented: "Let's hope we can finish the season strongly now! We've had too many non-finishes this season, we need more points and hopefully we'll be able to take some more wins before the end of the year."
Round 14 saw Aaron on the front row of the podium with his closest Championship rival, Jake Cook on Pole. The start to the race would prove crucial and as it turned out both youngsters made an even getaway. Cook managed to nose ahead at the first turn but at the next bend, Aaron edged into the lead with a superb piece of driving around the outside. His lead only lasted three corners though as Cook moved back ahead at Carlube.
Chris Swanwick then moved ahead of Aaron at the hairpin to take second but soon after the Safety Car was deployed.
The re-start came on lap five and due to the delay a decision was taken by officials to limit the race to a maximum duration of 15 minutes rather than the originally intended 12 laps. Cook led away well and as Swanwick and Aaron fought hard over second, the leader managed to open a gap.
Aaron moved ahead of Swanwick at the hairpin at the end of the lap but on the exit he dropped back behind.
Aaron ran through the gravel at Leslie's on the following tour, an error which looked to have ruined his chances of a podium, but he produced a superb final four laps to battle back into third at the finish, a mere 0.099 seconds ahead of fourth placed Swanwick. His determination was indisputable when, on the last lap, he achieved the fastest lap of the weekend.
Aaron said “We’ve had a good weekend, two podium finishes have given me a good points score but I would’ve liked to get a win. I’m looking forward to Silverstone this weekend where I’m hoping to regain the Championship lead.”
Silverstone National Circuit will host rounds 15 and 16 of the 2009 Ginetta Junior Championship with Henderson Insurance a fortnight from now over the weekend 29th/30th August.
Snetterton - Rounds 11 & 12
Despite having a few problems in practice, Aaron managed to qualify 5th on the grid for Round 11 of the Ginetta Junior Championship at Snetterton race circuit.
Aaron didn't get away from the grid as well as he wanted but he still managed to hold his position until the Esses, where he slipped into 4th place. A mistake by Mitchell Hale on lap three gave Aaron an advantage and he moved into third place.
A battle ensued for the remaining six laps as the driver in 4th place continually challenged Aarons position. Aaron showed steely determination and drove a faultless race giving him a third place finish.
Aaron said “I’m really pleased with the result; I think 3rd place is a great achievement considering my lack of pace in practice”
Round 12 produced another great race from Aaron. Starting from 6th on the grid Aaron got a much better start and immediately moved into 3rd position; however, on the second lap the 4th placed driver got into his slipstream and moved ahead putting Aaron in fourth place.
Aaron mounted another determined challenge to regain 3rd position; luck was on his side when a mechanical failure from one of the forerunners enabled him to slip back into 3rd place just before the chequered flag.
Aaron said "We wanted two podiums this weekend and we managed it so that's important. In the second race I did struggle a little bit but when Mitchell Hale’s gearbox went I was happy to take third place." He added “I’m really pleased to have moved into second place in the Championship”, “I am now within striking distance of leading the Championship so I need to keep focussed and hope for another good meeting at Knockhill.
Knockhill in Scotland will host the next event on the Ginetta Junior Championship calendar on 15th/16th August.
Provisional 2009 Ginetta Junior Championship with Henderson Insurance Positions (after Rd12): 1st Sarah Moore, 273pts; 2nd Aaron Williamson, 261pts; 3rd Jake Cook, 249pts; 4th Alex Austin, 240pts; 5th Thomas Howard, 190pts; 6th Mitchell Hale, 183pts
Croft Circuit - Rounds 9 & 10
Round 9 Croft Circuit 13th June – Grid Position 3rd
Aaron won round nine of the fiercely competitive 2009 Ginetta Junior Championship at Croft Circuit on Saturday, 13th June, and the victory – his third in four races – means he now moves to within 34 points of the series lead.
Aaron posted the fastest time in practice on Friday but only managed to qualify in 3rd position on Saturday morning.
Aaron produced another great start and moved straight into the lead ahead of Tom Ingram, however, Jake Hill battled back quickly and moved back into second at Sunny behind Aaron.
On lap two going into the complex Hill dived down the inside of Aaron and seized the lead while Ingram slipped from third to fourth at the hairpin behind a recovering Chris Swanwick.
Just one corner later, Aaron was back at the front having passed Hill into Clervaux. Hill then dropped out of contention after another costly error.
Chris Swanwick moved into the lead at the end of the third tour and he continued to do so for the next couple of laps as he and Aaron began to break away from the rest of the field.
Jake Cook started to apply more pressure to Aaron who was still in second place with less than three laps remaining while Thomas Howard held fourth position.
Into the penultimate lap, the top five were all equidistant and as they ran through the Sunny In/Sunny Out right-hander, Swanwick had a moment which dropped him to fourth place behind Aaron, Cook and Howard.
Cook mounted his bid for the lead of the race on the final lap at Tower but Aaron managed to keep him at bay and at the chequered flag Aaron was four 10ths of a second to the good. Third place went the way of Swanwick, his second career podium in cars, after he got by Howard at Sunny Out and held him off at the hairpin. Howard also lost fourth to Ingram by just 0.037 seconds. Hill, meanwhile, ended the race a disappointing 17th.
Aaron said “What a race!”, “We had a brilliant start, straight into the lead and although positions did change throughout, we came through in the end to win which really helps our championship. Obviously the aim now is to keep winning to close down the two ahead of me in the championship – we’ve still got a long season ahead of us.”
Ginetta Junior is often televised live on ITV4 and broadcasts are also shown throughout the UK on Freeview channel 28, cable channel 117 and digital satellite channel 120.
1st Sarah Moore, 227pts; 2nd Alex Austin, 204pts; 3rd Aaron Williamson, 193pts; 4th Jake Cook, 154pts; 5th Thomas Howard, 143pts; 6th Tom Ingram, 140pts
Round 10 Croft Circuit 14th June – Grid Position 4th
Aaron was hoping to continue his winning streak in round 10 but unfortunately this wasn’t to be.
The race started well and Aaron had moved into second place before the first bend. He held this position until lap three, when at Clervaux he saw his chance and seized the lead from Chris Swanwick. This was short lived as Swanwick made a questionable move against Aaron, which pushed him onto the grass, thus losing his momentum and demoted him to third place. Aaron kept his cool and soon got back ahead into second. Lap five then saw Hill pass Aaron for second at the hairpin and also grabbed the lead from Swanwick on the exit.
Aaron then slipped to fourth on the run from the chicane to Tower as Austin went through into the top three but worse was to follow for Aaron when on the final lap a costly spin at Clervaux dropped him out of the reckoning – although he still finished a very respectable seventh place.
Rounds 11 and 12 of the 2009 Ginetta Junior Championship with Henderson Insurance will take place at Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk seven weeks from now over the weekend 1st/2nd August.
Oulton Park - Rounds 7 & 8
Round 7 Oulton Park 30th May - Grid Position 6th
Aaron didn't qualify as well as he'd hoped. After being the fastest driver in practice, he was hoping to be on the front line of the grid.Fortunately, Aarons second fastest time but in him 2nd position on the grid for Round 8.
Aaron managed a good start and soon moved into 5th and then 4th place. On lap two a spin by second placed Pippa Coleman resulted in several drivers having to take swift action to avoid a collision, luckily for Aaron he emerged unscathed and managed to take the lead.
Due to all of the chaos the Safety Car was deployed with Aaron still leading ahead of Hill, Swanwick, David Moore, Austin and Carl Stirling. At the re-start on lap five, Aaron led by a couple of 10ths of a second but more drama was quick to arrive when Hill had a moment at Old Hall and spun out of second place.
At Island Bend on the fifth lap, it was Aarons turn for some misfortune when he struggled to get a gear which resulted in a lengthy delay that put him back in 13th place!
Aaron had to battle hard for the next three laps and managed to gain seven places, which saw him finish a very respectable 6th place. He said "I thought I was going to get another win so I'm really disappointed to make a mistake like that." "Hopefully I'll get it right tomorrow"!
Round 8 Oulton Park 30th May – Grid Position 2nd
Aaron got away well at the start from the outside of the front row to lead into Old Hall ahead of pole-sitter Tom Ingram, Jake Hill in third place.
While Aaron built a small advantage early on in his Muzz Racing car, as the race headed into lap two Ingram had closed the deficit to just four 10ths of a second although he was under increasing pressure himself from Hill.
On lap two Aaron conceded the lead to Jake Hill but he immediately hit back with a great pass on the inside at Druids giving him first place again.
On lap four Sarah Moore took the lead but Aaron made a determined effort to keep his momentum and he didn’t have to wait long before he saw an opportunity at Druids and once again took back the lead.
On lap five Jake Hill managed to pass both Sarah and Aaron but his lead was short lived when Aaron retook the lead ahead of Stirling and Moore and that was the finishing order on the classified timesheet when the outing was halted a lap from home.
Commenting on win number two of the season, Williamson said: "When I won at Donington I said it was my hardest ever race but this one, today, was definitely the hardest! The lead changed hands so many times, there wasn't a split second where you could think about backing off, you had to keep going and going until the last lap.
"It was really, really hot in the car and very hard work. To come away with a win today is fantastic especially after Saturdays’ costly mistake. It's great to be on the top step, the team has done a fantastic job with the car all weekend."
The 35 points awarded for a win means that Aaron has now moved up to third place in the Championship.
Provisional 2009 Ginetta Junior Championship with Henderson Insurance Positions (after Rd8): 1st Sarah Moore, 209pts; 2nd Alex Austin, 194pts; 3rd Aaron Williamson, 158pts; 4th Jake Cook, 124pts; 5th Thomas Howard, 123pts; 6th David Moore, 121pts
Rounds 9 and 10 of the 2009 Ginetta Junior Championship with Henderson Insurance will take place two weeks from now, 13th/14th June, at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire.
Donington Park Rounds 5 & 6
Round 5 Donington Park 17th
May - Grid Position 3rd
Aaron got
off to a good start maintaining his 3rd position into the first
bend.Chris Swanwick then edged through
into third place
Everything
changed just a couple of corners later though when the front-running pack
shuffled as Sarah Moore lost out into McLeans, slipping to fourth place while Aaron
assumed the lead ahead of Chris Swanwick and Jake Hill. Swanwick then became
the third leader of the race within the space of just one lap by taking first
place into Goddards.
Aaron
fought hard over the lead on lap two, a little further behind Hill had a spin
going under Starkey's Bridge to drop him out of contention.
On lap
four, Sarah Moore moved to the front once again heading into the chicane just
before light rain started to fall making the track quite slippery. Chris Swanwick
moved back ahead into McLeans on lap five which put Aaron in third place. These positions were maintained until the
chequered flag and Aaron was pleased to be on the podium once again.
Round 6 Donington Park 17th
May - Grid Position 3rd
The team
had decided to go with a wet set up due to the black clouds looming on the
horizon.Unfortunately just before the
race, the sun came out for its most persistent period all day. There was no time to change tyres and it
seemed that everyone else was on the same set up anyway.
Aaron got
off to a good start again and moved up to second place at Redgate and managed
to maintain that position throughout the first half of the race. By lap six Aaron had mounted a determined
charge and closed to within just three 10ths of a second of the leader, Jake
Hill.
Pressuring
the leader, Aaron dived up the inside at Redgate on lap seven to move ahead
momentarily but on the exit Jake Hill hit back and maintained the top spot
through Hollywood and down the Craner Curves.
Lap eight
produced a turning point though when a spin for backmarker Jake Giddings, as
the two leaders prepared to lap him at Redgate, resulted in a delay for Hill
who had to run wide in avoidance and thus hand the lead to an ecstatic Aaron.
Into the
last lap Aaron was 1.7 seconds ahead but Jake Hill wasn't going to give up
without a fight and managed to close the gap to nothing over the course of the
final lap. Almost side by side through McLeans and Coppice, Hill looked up the
inside into the chicane before tucking back in but he had better drive coming
out of the corner.
Over the
line, the cars traded paintwork but Aaron managed to hold on by just six 100ths
of a second, giving him his first win in the Ginetta Junior Championship.
Aaron
said "I've been after a win for two years now, what a great race in which
to win my first one too", "The track was getting drier and drier
every lap, the tyres were going off and the car was sliding about. On the final
lap, Jake (Hill) was really catching me and it was quite nerve-wracking really.
That was the closest race finish I've ever had!"
Aaron's
victory, pushes him up the driver standings into the top four from seventh
place.
Rounds
seven and eight of the 2009 Ginetta Junior Championship with Henderson
Insurance will take place a fortnight from now, 30th/31st May, at Oulton Park
Island Circuit in Cheshire.
Provisional
2009 Ginetta Junior Championship with Henderson Insurance Positions (after
Rd6):
1st Sarah Moore, 166pts; 2nd Alex Austin, 145pts; 3rd Jake Cook, 144pts; 4th
Aaron Williamson, 115pts; 5th Tom Ingram, 100pts; 6th Thomas Howard, 91pts
Thruxton Rounds 3 & 4
Round 3 Thruxton -
Grid Position 5th
Aaron got off to a fantastic start by rocketing through from
fifth on the grid to take second place at the complex and then the lead on the
run through Village and Church corners.
Into lap two, Aaron held the lead from Jake Hill, David and Sarah Moore.Aaron took control and led for a couple of
laps before David Moore produced another good pass at the fastest point of the
circuit, Church.
The lead changed hands another couple of times between
Aaron and David which allowed Sarah Moore to close in and the trio ran three
abreast through Church and into the long climb up the hill on lap four. She
then moved ahead at the chicane to demote Aaron to second and David to third
place as fourth positioned Austin started to come into play. With nothing at
all between the lead quartet, the intensity of the action continued to rise but
a huge spin for Aaron at Village ended his challenge when he dropped back to 14th
place. He still fought hard to make up
the lost ground, eventually finishing a very credible seventh place.
Round 4 Thruxton - Grid Position 5th
Aaron moved straight into third position from fifth after another great
start.
Under pressure for the lead into the chicane, Aaron was passed by Jake
Hill at the end of the opening lap while Alex Austin ran in third and Jake Cook
was in fourth.
After trading the lead at almost every corner with Hill, Aaron then slipped back
to fourth on lap two.Into the chicane, Jake
Cook took second place and Aaron slipped through into third past Austin.
On lap five at the complex, the race took an unexpected turn when Aaron
collided with Jake Cook which allowed Sarah Moore through to second and forced
Cook down to third place. Aaron regained his momentum and battled on until lap
seven when he made a move to take several places but unfortunately the car
started to slide and collided with Hill at the complex, forcing both into
retirement.
Aaron was disappointed but consoled by the fact that he broke the lap
record, which will give him 1 bonus championship point.
Brands Hatch Rounds 1 & 2
Brands Hatch Round 1
Aaron made a good start to his 2009 campaign at Brands Hatch
Indy Circuit on Saturday 4th April,
during the opening round of the Ginetta Junior Championship.
Although Aaron didn’t qualify as well as he hoped, he managed6th Position on the grid; he knew
he’d have to get off to a good start to be in with a good chance ofthe podium finish that had eluded him last
season.Everything went according to
plan with Aaron moving quickly into 4th place and quickly closing in
on the front runners.
As the race
approached lap 7, Aaron was on the back of Jake Hill, still fighting for a
podium finish. Luck seemed to be on Aaron’s side when an incident involving a
backmarker on lap eight took Austin out of contention, putting Aaron in 3rd
place.
With five laps to go, Aaron was holding the 3rd position when
another incident brought out the safety car at the beginning of lap 11; after 3
laps on track the race was re-started with 1 lap remaining.Aaron got away well and would’ve been happy
to bring it home in 3rd but good fortune was on Aaron’s side once
again when, Hill ran wide out of Paddock Hill Bend and ended up spinning into
the gravel.Aaron gladly took 2nd
place with his ex-teammate Jake Cook taking a well deserved win.
Aaron said “This was a brilliant start to the season but I still need to find
some pace for tomorrows’ race and hopefully get on the top step”
BRANDS HATCH - Round 2
After Saturdays’ success Aaron was feeling confident but
still a bit nervous about today’s race.
Aaron, who began the race from 3rd position, made
a good start but only managed to maintain 3rd place. On the exit of Druids, Alex Austin drifted
very wide which gave Aaron the chance to move into 2nd Place.
At McLaren on the second lap, Jake Cook managed
to get on the inside of Aaron and he then sealed the pass into Paddock on lap
three which moved Aaron down to 3rd.
The next lap saw Aaron losing momentum after
running wide at Clearways and into 4th place;
The positions changed again on lap 7 as the
leaders approached Druids, second placed Hill receiving a small tap to the rear
of his car from Austin which threw him into a spin. Austin took second as Aaron
also managed to get by Hill into third.
Everything was looking good for another podium
finish but on the penultimate lap at McLaren David Moore made a move to pass
Aaron and unfortunately they both ended up in a spin.Aaron was able to rejoin the race but was
only able to cross the line in 13th Place.
Aaron said “I’m really disappointed about the
result today because I would’ve liked another podium finish. The season has just begun so hopefully this
won’t affect the Championship too much. I need to concentrate on Thruxton in
two weeks time and hopefully get some more points on the scoresheet”
The third and fourth rounds of the 2009 Ginetta Junior Championship with
Henderson Insurance will take place three weeks from now at Thruxton Circuit in
Hampshire over the weekend 25th/26th April.

Pre Season 2009
Pre Season 2009
2008 was a hard year for everyone in the Aaron Williamson racing team.Racing in three very different formulas turned out to be too much of a challenge and Aaron ended the season racing only Junior Ginetta .
We intend to continue the Junior Ginetta campaign in 2009. With a new team and a full fitness and diet regime Aaron couldn’t be in a better position to start the new season.Aarons main aim for this year is to win the Ginetta Junior championship and to hopefully bring in a few sponsorsto take him into next year.
Aaron decided to move to Muzz Race who won the championship last year. They’re putting Aaron through an intensive training programme which includes several weeks of Pre-season testing and working with Aaron to tweak the car and driving position to make it easier to drive.
Aaron also struggled with his fitness last year so he has now embarked on an intensive fitness programme which means working out in the gym 5 times a week and eating a more balanced diet. Aaron said “I have to give it my all this year, this is my last chance to prove that I can be a race winner and a championship contender”.

2008 Season & Arena Essex Raceway
Arena Essex Raceway Team "AWR" Rolling Thunder show
Practice The car was going really well and I was second fastest on the track, only one yellow top - No.72 was faster. I then developed a miss fire which was caused when a finger came off the engine so I had to pull of the track straight away. Luck was not on my side again – Every time I have been out in this car I have had the same problem with the engine. Luckily Barry Randall was there to reset the tapits and away we went for heat 1.
Heat 1 This was my second ever meeting at the Rolling Thunder show and only my 4th outing in the car. I was hoping for a good result in this one; the last time I raced at "RTS" I got 2nd in the final and this time I was starting off the front of the whites. The green flag dropped and the race was under way; all I had to do is keep my head while leading, keep it sweet and bring it home! I was leading the race from 5 laps so I was in the lead for 10 laps. Towards the end of the race I was driving raggid and on the edge I don’t know whether it was because I was leading and looking good for my first formula 2 race win or if I was just getting tired of putting in so many laps being on my own, but I could not complain. It felt fantastic taking the win. A big thank you to Barry Randall for sorting out my engine so quickly to get me out for this race.
Heat 2 I was a little bit more confident with the car now after Heat 1; my only advice was to be smoother on the throttle and not to be aggressive with the steering and brakes. After winning the first race, this gave me another challenge; I had to start at the back of the whites so I was about 9th. This would be good practice to get through the traffic, which I will have to deal with when I go up the grades. I had another good start, bumping a few out of the way and getting hit. (that brought me back to my Ministox days when I always started at the back of the pack and had to work my way forward). After about 5 laps I worked my way into 2nd place and was slowly reeling in the leader, but then a yellow flag came out and we all had to bunch up. When we got underway again on the rolling lap I purposely bunched all of the cars up behind me at turn two so I got a clear run going into turn three; luckily the leader missed a gear on the start and that saw me take the lead again with 5 laps to go. I knew I only had to keep it sweet and on the island to bring it home and I did so..... Fantastic – 2 out of 2, I couldn’t believe my luck. This experience has taught me that to be faster I need to go into the bends slightly slower so that I can keep it smoother. I was going in too hard and coming out sideways which was slowing me down.
Final After Heat Two with another superb finish the engine was tapping badly coming back into the pits. We had to tighten all the loose tapits again. If my Dad hadn’t been there to set them I would not have got into the final because the car wouldn’t even start. I lined up in the final again at the back of the whites and this time it was a clutch start so I got off to a brilliant start again, I was in the lead being pushed by number 72, half way though the race I developed a miss fire on my engine at top revs so I was losing power. I knew a finger had come off again so without doing any more damage to the engine I had to pull off and turn my car off straight away. Bloody engine! I need to get that sorted before the next meeting. Conclusion What started out as a good meeting ended with engine problems and I felt disappointed for the whole team but that’s racing I suppose. Next meeting 10th May.......... Watch this space!
SNETTERTON 14-16th March Well here we are again with another season upon us. The first race of the Saxmax Season got off to a very damp start with the meeting being cancelled due to the bad weather. We arrived on the Thursday night and spent Friday practicing, which went ok. We stayed to watch the Stock Hatches on Saturday and the weather was a bit mixed but didn’t affect the racing. On Saturday night the heavens opened and there was a deluge overnight. We were up and ready to go on Sunday but the racing was initially postponed and then the officials finally made the decision to cancel the meeting at lunchtime..... All that stress and preparation for nothing! Never mind – That’s racing I suppose.
NEW CHALLENGES FOR 2008 As well as driving in the SAXMAX Championship I will also be taking racing BRisca formula 2 stock cars which my Dad has been racing for years. I am hoping to do the stock cars when we haven’t got a circuit meeting on - Check the date’s section and see if one is close to you. I am especially looking forward to another new challenge in the 2008 season as I will be competing in the Junior Ginetta Series, which is a support race to the British Touring Cars. I am hoping that this will help me get more publicity in the racing world and hopefully gain more experience to enable me to take my racing to another level. CROFT RACEWAY 17-18th March Ginetta Media training Event After leaving Snetterton on the 16th March we drove straight to Croft Raceway in North Yorkshire. I had two days of gruelling training which involved learning various media techniques; this included being interviewed and having photographs taken etc. We also had a couple of hours testing the Ginetta each day which was my second outing in the new car after Mallory. The two days went really well; I got my championship race suit and got the car set up ready for the first race at Brands Hatch. We have now decided to run in a team with ‘TJ Motorsport’ because it is proving hard trying to run in three difference cars. TJ Motorsport will ensure that the car is fully race prepared for each meeting so all I have got to concentrate on is ...... Winning! We’re looking forward to Brands. Keep checking this Website to follow my progress throughout the season.
27th October - Brands Hatch
The final race of the season was upon us; The pressure was on and I knew it was going to be hard to get 2nd in the championship all I had to do is finish to clinch 3rd .
Friday Practice: Was running ok; For once I was about 5th fastest but I knew I was losing time around paddock. I also tested next years’ tyres which made me about 2/10ths of second faster - so not much difference really. Saturday Practice: Can’t believe with how the car went in practice - about 4th fastest but the car felt really ‘on it’ - Bring on qualifying.
Saturday Qualifying: The car was running really well so I was hopeful that I could get a good place on the grid. My Championship position was at stake so I had to make sure I qualified well - Everything went well throughout and I managed 4th. This was the right way to start!
Saturday THE RACE: Had a good start and into the first bend I got tapped on the back-end but managed to hold it steady but dropped a place to 5th. I managed to overtake Abbie Eaton at Druids and then James Colburn at Clarkes bend. After another couple of laps I had started to reel in Chrissie Palmer and amazingly managed to get past him into 2nd place ......... but not for long - he got past me again the next lap but I knew I would be ok with 3rd place so I just had to concentrate on keeping James Rooker Edwards behind me. All was going well until the last lap and something went drastically wrong at Paddock Hill when I missed a gear and broad sided the car down the hill – One way and then in full lock the other way – I don’t know how I managed to hold onto it but I did! Rooker Edwards took 3rd and Colbourne took 4th so I had to settle for 5th, which I was really pleased with considering my ‘near disaster’
This confirmed my 3rd Position in the Championship.
7th & 8th September 2007 - Oulton Park
FRIDAY TEST We did not have a good day, I was two seconds off the pace because of another engine problem, it was decided to change the engine, Kel, Dad, Pete Morgan and Terry Roughton worked into the evening getting it changed, so a very big thank you to those guys . Could I just say a big thank you to Paul and Andrew Tibbs for lending us their spare engine. Thanks.
SATURDAY TEST We knew this weekend was going to be tough because there were two races on the same day. We had a decent engine now so we were looking for some good times, but no, we had a damn misfire, Pete got to work straight away and thought he had solved the problem.
SATURDAY QULIFYING With the misfire sorted we were all hoping for a good session, but it was not to be, still got the misfire and as a result got put back to 15th on the grid. We thought we fixed the engine again ready for the race we road tested it and everything was ok. SATURDAY RACE 1 As soon as I got out of the pit gate it was misfiring again, I was now annoyed with it, the start was rubbish everyone passed me straight away, just had no straight line speed, but still an entertaining race loads of cars where crashing all over the place, Sam Scofield got hit flat out in his door big style, they stopped the race after that, but it was not classified, damn, got up to 7th, could of done with the points. It was confirmed later the race was cancelled. Sam was ok but his car was a complete wreck.
QUALIFYING 2 We changed every thing electrical we could on the engine to make it better, which it was, I got 5th on the grid.
RACE 2 I was a bit more confident our car was right this time so we could make some points up. Lights went out and in normal AWR style another rubbish start that put me back to 8th. The race was tough but I didn’t push myself too much because of the championship, I just needed some points and finally got fifth though what I thought was more of a thinking race, I needed to keep the car on the island. I’m looking forward to Brands, I need a good finish there and with luck finish 3rd in the championship.
Aaron.
17th & 18th August 2007 - Silverstone
FRIDAY TEST
Friday didn’t go well at all being 2 seconds off the pace, we knew it was the engine so Pete Morgan came over to sort it out.
SATURDAY PRACTICE
The car was feeling a lot better but still running 10th and still half a second off the pace.
SATURDAY QUALIFYING
We knew we had some work to do to make up that half a second, but sadly the result was still not good, the car still seemed to lack some power. We ended up 10th on the grid.
RACE
I was praying for rain, that was the only way I would do any good, and thank god it did, as soon as we lined up it chucked it down. We changed our tyres and was ready for a good race.
I lined up in my grid slot quite a long way from the front, race underway, had a good start for a change, me and Andrew exchanged a bit of paint when we were fighting for 5th position, eventually I managed to pull away from Andrew and pass a few cars, I worked my way up to 3rd reeling in Chris Palmer for 2nd, I saw an opportunity to overtake but I aquaplaned and just missed him, I was happy to get some championship points by finishing 3rd, and bring the car home safely.
I would like to say a big thank you to all the team, and a thank you to Pete Morgan for helping me with the problems on my engine.
Aaron.
PEMBREY 23RD AND 24TH JUNE 2007
RACE REPORT:
SATURDAY - 23/06/07
PRACTICE
I was still a bit disappointed with my results from Brands Hatch, but I was up for Pembrey, despite not being in the car for a month. I went out to practice running about 6th, which I was ok with but I still needed to improve.
QUALIFYING
I was aiming for a top 5, but qualified 6th on the grid. That would have to do.
RACE
I was confident in the car. My start was very poor; I went into the first corner and lost one place. I picked my way through the other cars and was running 3rd. A 3rd finish would be brill.
Then they restarted the race due to a stranded car on the track. At the restart I was still 3rd but my left side front wheel bearing seized, I was now losing 2 seconds a lap, and cars were passing me. I still got 7th.
SUNDAY - 24/06/07
QUALIFYING
I was a bit worried because I did not have practice to test whether the car was handling correct. Everything had been repaired and checked.
I was cautious for the first few laps to see whether the car was alright, then went for it I was 5th on the grid so I was very happy with that and was looking forward to the race.
RACE
I was starting 5th so I was on the inside going into the first bend so I had to be even more cautious.
I had a good start for a change, and was up behind Leyton Clark in the number 7 car, going into the first bend he hit the car in front and I managed to slip up the inside and took the lead, I was going for it, I had pulled a few car lengths on him. Then starting lap two I had a 10 second penalty board shown with my car number shown, I was thinking “what was that for”?
I tried to keep my head and managed to pull enough of a lead to secure 3rd place.
The 10 second penalty was for an alleged failure start, we contested this, with video evidence, but the case was thrown out, never mind! Roll on Silverstone.
Thanks,
Aaron.
BRANDS HATCH 19TH AND 20TH MAY 2007
I was confident going into Brands, previous testing there had been really good and I felt good after taking the win at Snetterton.
SATURDAY PRACTICE
It didn’t go at all well, I was a lot slower than I knew I should be but didn’t know why. I was getting frustrated and this just made matters worse. I was not happy.
SATURDAY QUALIFYING
Things still didn’t go as well as I hoped, all the hard work in the pits with car set up made no difference, I was just not comfortable with the car and ended up 14th on the grid, so not good.
SATURDAY RACE
I was not in the best of moods from qualifying I had to get a good start and top 5 was what we thought would be the highest place we could get, that was the minimum target. I had a great start I knew this was going to be a hard race and it was, but I picked places off lap by lap until I got up to 5th place reeling in 4th and 3rd easily, I would have got them because we were only half way through the race. Then it all went wrong, I ended up crashing into the back of a car I was just coming up to lap. We entered druids and just as I made my move they closed the door on me, my car was a total mess, new wing, bonnet, grill, bumper, light, indicator etc. Kel worked late into the evening to get the car ready for Sunday (thanks bud!).
SUNDAY QUALIFYING
I was in a better mood than Saturday but still only qualified 8th on the grid.
SUNDAY RACE
I thought a top 3 finish in this race would be enough just to keep up there in the points. I had a good start again and pushed the car, I worked my way to 4th. I think I pushed the tyres too hard because towards the end of the race, the tyres started to go off; I slipped back to 8th, not a bad end, but a disappointing weekend.
In order to take the circuit racing more seriously I have decided to give up ministox. I would like to thank everybody who helped me in the minis. Thanks to Dad, I have had the greatest experience in them I know he will be sad to see it go and so will I. The mini racing was for sure the best fun I have had racing.
Thanks. Aaron.
Snetterton 5th & 7th April 2007
Thursday 05/04/07 This was a test day for us, my car was over steering, so Dad changed suspension settings, this made the car a lot better but I was still struggling at Coram Curve and was losing a lot of time. Stock Hatch driver Peter Morgan walked me around that corner and from then on the car felt really good.
Saturday 07/04/07 Practice was good I was getting more used to the circuit and with Pete’s help I got up to about 5th or 6th so I was getting better but still need a couple of hundredth seconds, Dad and Kel changed the car set up slightly, ready for qualifying.
Qualifying Car was on it right from the start. Before the session started my instructor Carl Breeze came over and told me where I could go faster and talked me around the corners just to refresh. We had ten minutes of time out on the track so we was hoping my fastest time would come in at about laps 4 or 5 which it did on the 5th lap. I posted my fastest time which put me 4th on the grid so I was really pleased that I had come on this far since Thursday.
Race A good start, I managed to hold off Jake and to tuck in behind Leyton. I lost some time behind Leyton holding off Jake but then Jake locked up under breaking and went off the track. I pushed my car to the limits to catch Leyton. I did going into Coram, the last corner before the straight. Leyton ran wide and I managed to nip up the inside. Then I had to work on Sam Scofield but next lap, he did the same as Leyton and ran wide I was now in second and Chris Palmer was leading, but then on the next lap Chris got black flagged. I was now leading the race so all I had to do was keep my head. I led the last 2 laps and brought the car home in first place and so got my first ever Saxmax win. I got my trophy and had to do a brief interview.
Thanks to every one who helped me get this far and a special thanks to my Dad and mechanic Kel. Another big thanks to Pete Morgan for my engine and advice on the track, also to Carl Breeze for your driver instruction over the winter months and your encouragement during the race.
Aaron.
25th March 2007
SAXO - DONNINGTON PARK
1ST MEETING OF THE YEAR
We arrived Friday night so that we could book in and get ready for practice on the Saturday morning.
Practice went really well, we worked on tyres and different set ups. Our times were coming down and both me and Andrew Tibbs were pushing each other to get the best out of ourselves and the cars.
SUNDAY (RACE DAY)
The weather was holding out and because of yesterdays set-up we had done good times, I was hopeful that I could make top five in qualifying. I think I had been second fastest yesterday.
QUALIFYING
We all set off and I think we all got a bit over excited, a few car’s spun off and my mate Andrew Tibbs (4) ended up, through no fault of his own, with the front end of his car completely smashed up. I just missed them but qualifying was red flagged while they collected the crashed cars. We set off again and I just went for it, luckily for me because of another red flag they called time on qualifying and I had got Pole Position.
Andrew’s car was a mess, but his Dad and mechanics got it put back together, he would have to start at the back of 20 cars, but at least he was out there.
THE RACE
I was really nervous, I was in Pole for the first time ever and I sometimes fluff my starts.
Everyone kept telling me I would be ok but that didn’t really help!
We lined up and I thought “oh well here we go”. I just planted the throttle and went for it. I held the lead into the first corner. Dad had said to just try and drive my own race and not worry about what was behind me – yeah right, like that was going to happen. I held the lead for four laps then Sam Scofield got by me, I went wide and ended up just on the gravel, this also let third man Leyton Clarke catch me as well, I think he got by me on the next lap. From then on in, it was follow the leader, us first three had pulled a gap on the rest of the cars, I did have a go for second place again but Leyton went just a little quicker so I finished third. I am well pleased. Andrew finished ninth which was brilliant seeing how he started last.
Roll on Snetterton on 7th April, I can’t wait! Aaron.
24th Febuary 2007
IPSWICH
HEAT 1
We had a misfire all the way through the practice and we could not cure it by the first race so we were down on power.
We all lined up for the race but I knew I would do no good unless the misfire cleared, it didn’t and because of lack of power, I was taken out. Not good!
HEAT 2
We tried to cure the misfire but no joy. Dave Polley came over to set my car up, he said it would be a lot better and do your best with the car how it is, went out there lined up, against Alex Meadows. A good start as usual, car still missing but handling a bit better. Followed Alex all the way through and got up to third place, my car was still missing but managed to keep with them, until I passed a white top and he flicked me into a fence and I had to join onto the back. Race over for me.
THE FINAL
I was hoping to get one good race in and get some points, good start but still misfiring, got my way through, got to fifth place, when someone hit me and put me into fence.
This turned out not to be a good meeting. No points. Never mind that’s racing.
4th Febuary 2007
WIMBLEDON
PRACTICE
Very very good and quick, but not handling like last time , so came into pits and altered it ready for the first race.
HEAT 1
Started at the back of the blues, had a good start doing fairly well pushing myself through traffic, until about the fifth lap when I got spun right round on the spot, and then got hit head on, this put me near the back, the car was not handling very good, but managed to finish in eighth place.
HEAT 2
I was a bit annoyed with myself because I didn’t do well in the last race, as this has now put me back in the point’s chase, so I need to do well in this race to get some back. My start was brilliant there was a big crash on first bend, I narrowly missed it and this put me into second place, I thought I could win this now, but its racing and anything can happen. I spun the leader out and took the lead, and won the race.
THE FINAL
I was now drawing with the leader in the points, so a win would take me in the lead and I would get my silver top. I had a good start and was confident, but there was a lot of big names out there, all wanting the same as me. I knew it was going to be a tough race, so I was going to try my hardest. A good start, the first corner there was a big pile up, this moved me up into about sixth place, checked in my mirror, noting too close so I made my way through the pack and took the lead. I was leading until the last five laps, a white top took me out, and I was really annoyed. Roll on Ipswich, this has not really been too good a meeting.
18th January 2007
Welcome to AWR, Aaron Willamson Racing and happy new year!!
Well to kick start 2007, heres Aarons gleaming ministox for the new season.
More pictures here including all Aarons sponsors! Please take the time to see whos keeping him on track!!
Well here we are, the start of a new year in the mini’s & I want to do really well this year. I always get nervous on the way to the stadium I don’t know why.
PRACTICE I have a new engine, and the car has been re-sprayed & sign written and looks really great. I went out for practice to try the new engine and it was brilliant, it felt faster than last years engine.
HEAT 1 I lined up at the back of the blue grades waiting for the flag to drop. I got off to a good start flying into the first bend. Half way through the race I had got into second place, the person leading went into the corner a bit too hard and I took the lead from there on. A win in the first race, I was well pleased.
HEAT 2 I again lined up at the back of the blue grades but this time I was full of confidence. The green flag dropped and away to another brilliant start. Going into the first bend someone spun me and then another one collected me and put me half a lap down and right at the back. I fought my way through the pack trying so hard I thought I may lose control. I came away with an 8th. Really good considering the spin at the start.
FINAL I lined up again at the back of the blue grades and again a good start, I even hit the person in front before the first bend, I worked my way up to 4th and then the red flags came out, this means complete re-start, but this time I was off the front of the blue grades. A good start and by the first corner I was half way through the yellow grades, I was already 6th about half way through the race. I slowly caught the leader, Adam O’Dell, he let me past and I took the win. Two out of three, not bad, I should be in the top 3 of the points. A big thank you to George Polley for the new engine.
Aaron.
17th November 2006
BIRMINGHAM – Children in Need Charity Meeting
RACE 1
My first time out on this track as the Marshalls wouldn’t let us have any practice. This race was different to what I was used to because it was Non-contact so I knew if would be more difficult. There were about 50 mini’s racing which is much more than usual. The races were split into 2 heats because of the numbers racing. I felt the track was really greasy but still managed to scrape through and get 6th place, which guaranteed me a place in the final.
RACE 2
Not a good race – I couldn’t see anything down the straight because of the spray and my visor was steaming up!! Had a few knocks due to poor vision! Came 12th which is not good. – Needed to change my helmet for next race, back to my motocross helmet. It does help when you can see where you are going!
FINAL
Started 30th on the grid but managed a good start which put me ahead of the blue grades straight away. Throughout the race I was getting pushed around by 677 but managed to hold my ground until the end of the race. I thought I was 4th so lined up to leave the track. One of the Marshalls signalled to me go to the centre to receive my trophy as I had come in 2nd !!! I enjoyed the race, I think it was one of my favourites. Another trophy to add to my collection.

RACE 1 – FELSHAM GARAGE SERIES FINAL
I Qualified 9th in this Series over the season. The winner of this series wins a new Mini!!
I thought I had no hope of doing any good in this race because there were a lot of big names out there starting in front of me. Got off to a good start (for once!) got straight up there with the main players and by the first bend I was in about 7th place. As the race went on the track became very greasy and wet. Luckily we had a full set of wet tyres and wet set up so we had an advantage. Got to about 5th with 7 laps to go and a big pile up took out a number of the leaders, which put me up to 3rd. With 5 laps to go I got past Sam Hepburn which put me into 2nd and with 3 laps to go the track became even more slippery which meant that the back of my car kept slipping. This cost me dearly and meant that the car in 3rd was steadily gaining on me but luckily Sam Hepburn took him out on the last lap which kept the heat off me and I managed to take 2nd place which I was really pleased with.
End Of Season...
SAXMAX – END OF FIRST SEASON

SAXMAX
SNETTERTON
QUALIFYING It started to rain so Kel and Dad rushed around changing the tyres, luckily it was the right choice and we got 10th on the grid which I was very happy with.
RACE I was really nervous, I don’t know why. Good start and moved up to 7th, real good first bend, went really good until going into the next corner someone had spun Liam McMillan out and I was facing him head on I just missed him on the grass and this put me back to about 14th managed to get back to 13th, I was a little disappointed with my place but pleased with the car - let’s see what tomorrow brings.
SUNDAY QUALIFYING We got this completely wrong. The track was wet but dried quickly. I went out on intermediate tyres and a soft set up I did not get a very good place I think I was 13th.
THE RACE The race was delayed because of the bad weather, but I love racing in the wet and felt quite confident.
I had a bad start, Rocker Edwards stalled or wheel spun so I could not get over to the left. The two cars in front crashed into each other so I was sandwiched in, loads of people passed me I ended up back in 19th place, I worked my way up to 11th which I was very pleased with, let’s see what next year holds!
10th September 2006
MINISTOX
WIMBLEDON After my big crash in the Saxo on Saturday at Oulton Park I was determined to get in the Mini and have a good result.
HEAT 1 Went with no problems and I took the win.
HEAT 2 Very much the same as heat 1 and had a win again.
FINAL I felt I was on a roll and full of confidence, that lasted about 5 seconds, the car gained a miss fire at the start of the race and it ended up running on 3 cylinders, I was pushed along the straight and ended up in the fence. Race over! Never mind 2 wins, I’ll take that thanks.
9th September 2006
SAXMAX
OULTON PARK
PRACTICE I did not take to the track at all and was about 8 secs off the leaders. Liam McMillan champ leader took me and Liam Hamilton on a bike ride around the track and told us breaking points and gear changes. This made me feel more confident.
QUALIFYING I was now getting more confident so I went for it and got 7th on the grid.
THE RACE The start was terrible and I lost a lot of places, on the second bend a car spun and I avoided him but I ended up on the grass and got a tap in the back corner from another car, this spun me and I ended up facing Layton Clarke (4) we had a head on! Lots of damage to both cars but we were both ok.
The car is now at Dave Ferguson’s (Joe, 34’s Dad) to be repaired.
A big thanks to Paul McMillan (Liam McMillan’s Dad) and David Hamilton (Liam Hamilton’s Dad) who came over on Fridays practice and talked me through the circuit, also Dave Ferguson for repairing my car. Thanks.

YARMOUTH
FIRST HEAT I was a blue grade. First bend I was on the back of a yellow grade picking my way through. Five laps to go my mate Alex Meadows 176 was leading. Coming out of the bend I got up the inside of him and then I was leading, the last four laps seemed forever, I had a win!!
SECOND HEAT Picking my way through nicely, but not good enough. My mate Ollie 124 got second in that one and I had fourth.
FINAL First bend I got up to fourth then spun out, I was eighth on last bend I took a dive on the person who was in front of me he spun I got seventh.

YARMOUTH – 27/08/06
NORFOLK GOLD CUP FINAL
In the qualifying rounds I had not done very well because of various crashes or breakdowns, I ended up 16th place on the grid.
PRACTICE
On the practice lap, last years Gold Cup winner Henry King (Gobby) drove me around.
We were all given prizes for the points we collected in the rounds, mine was a racing balaclava.
THE RACE
Clutch start as usual. A brilliant start, first bend hardly shut off, hit the boy in front, moved him wide and worked my way up to about 6th. Then because of a crash there was a restart. First bend after the restart I was pushed out to the fence and caught the post and ropes, that did the race for me!
I broke rear stub axle and front top arm. Did not get out for Heat 1, but my mate Ollie (124) won it. Got out in Heat 2, got up to 4th then lost bend and got hit flat out, put me back to 8th and that’s where I finished.
26th August 2006
SAXMAX
SILVERSTONE - 26/08/06
PRACTICE
The car handling good but a fuel surge at Brooklands Hairpin slowed me down to about 60 mph losing me lots of time.
I called into the pits, we thought the problem was the ecu so we changed it.
QUALIFYING
After changing tyre pressures the car was handling much better but still surging at 60 mph but this time it was all the way around the corner, losing me a lot of time. We stuck with it and got 5th. This was my best ever qualifying position.
After qualifying we stripped the fuel tank and found all sand and grit in the tank, so we cleaned it all out, hoping that would cure the fuel surging problem.
THE RACE
We lined up on the grid. I did not have a good start and lost two places straight away. With 4 laps gone I was in 6th place and following Andy Tibbs (28), who because of a previous accident needed to come in the pits. This now made me 5th. The car was going well, it wasn’t surging, all was ok, well that was the kiss of death going into Brooklands it started surging again but not for so long. On the last lap the car surged again and felt like it was going to stop. K. C. Watson (72) nearly ran into the back of me (sorry K.C.) but the car picked up again and I managed to hold off for 5th, my best place yet.
13th August 2006
SAXMAX
BRANDS HATCH - 13/08/06
PRACTICE
We only had 15 minutes practice and it was throwing it down with rain. Kel and Dad rushed around changing tyres. We got out onto the track for the first time. I thought it was a nice track – at the end of the straight there is a hill where your head and your stomach swap places! Done a good time about 3 seconds off the leaders. I quite enjoyed racing in the wet!
QUALIFYING
Started to brighten up but we still left wet tyres on. The first few laps when the track was still wet I was doing really well and got 5th. The track started to dry out and because I had wet tyres on, the car was starting to push. I came back to the pits early, still in 5th place but the other drivers did better in the remaining laps so I got put back to 14th.
THE RACE
I was even more nervous than at Pembrey, the lights went out and we’re off to a cracking start, straight up to 8th I saw number 28, Andy Tibbs, one car in front so knew I must be doing ok! 2 laps later I was in 7th place and a good dry line was appearing, held 7th until last 3 laps when I went into the corner too hard ( I forgot I was on intermediate tyres) and went out to the rumble strips – 2 cars passed me and I ended up 9th. Bad mistake but the car was ok and I was pleased with my drive.
14th August 2006
Saxmax -Pembray
My first race in the
Saxmax formula, very very nervous!
We were lucky enough
to have 3 X half hour practise sessions on Friday to allow us to get used to
the circuit, itwas also the first time
I had driven the car solo (before I had always been with instructors).
Practise 1 & 2
went ok but I was quite a bit off the pace of the front runners.A bit of advice from Paul Tibbs (Andrew’s –
28 -Dad) and Paul McMillan (Liam’s - 5
-Dad) about different settings and
corner approaches and by practice 3 I had closed the gap to about a second off
the leaders (very pleased).
Saturday Race 1
Qualified 13 (unlucky
Ha Ha) and my first grid start (Oh s**t). Well the race went well started 13
finished 13 (very happy with that) and only a little front wing damage!!! (Oh
well rubbins racing).
Sunday Race 2
Mum gave me 3 shredded
wheat for breakfast, I qualified 7th on the grid, row 4, I had
already done a start but still very nervous.
The lights went out, slight wheel spin and then off down the straight, I
got up to 5th, but didn’t last long, my brakes locked up first bend
and put me back to 9th and that was where I finished I was
frustrated with myself but still over the weekend with those 2 placings got me
23 points which puts me 20th out of 24 competitors.
